These programs are wrong on so many levels. The very least, udio should let the users know where they get the samples. Apparently, they don't care. Everything is free for the picking. I'm wondering how they make money since they advertise free usage.
John
Follow the money for the real story...lol. But yeah. Hypothetical. Say strongly emerging "band of musicians" used 10 of one UDIO creators song offerings, put out a CD or the digital equivalent, Made $1,000,000.00 in profit. How much would they keep? How much would the UDIO platform creators get? How much would the UDIO user person get (assume he/she wrote the lyric)? How much would the music data bank contributors get?

Randy Travis just released a song using AI to recreate his voice, which he lost due to a stroke in 2013. Song is “Where That Came From,” can only find on his website. This was really an AI assist, because Travis was involved in every aspect, even though another singer provided the vocals somehow. Great song, even though in simulation. Pretty amazing.
See there's no doubt it's going to be used. The question as artist, do you want to, your the artist.
It's kinda like chess, cause it can calculate thousands of possibilities. Faster and more efficient
Ai works same, it can theorize any possible way for a melody to go. Right now I don't think it has capability of complex stuff, chord voicings, your not gonna get alternate tunings on the guitar, but I suspect ai guitar stand alone units will make that a reality.
In the end people have to like it, so why they like one over another is still part of the mystery.
I fed ai one of my better songs. Honestly? It put out some really good commercial sounding stuff, I trued about 40 takes.
There were 5 that I thought killed it, but In all honesty the music and melody I wrote was better.
Maybe I like my own style better, I'm influenced by the who and Bruce, Tom Petty, alot of pop rock , Americana, British invasion, modern rock, garage, Blues even some new wave, singer songwriters
Honestly I feel like the experiment is over. the real power of this thing is the production.
What I'm hearing is that when the production and sound is great it makes everything else seem great
I'm not able to get a great sound it's not really feasible . Not sounding like that anyway.
But you take away all the arrangements, vocals, slick production, the songs are not better
I need to make my bucket list album.
But I dint mind helping a lyricist with this if they have something.
I’m not as long as I can write sing and get session players , why would I ? But more power to who use it Randy sounds great however his producers are getting that smooth vocal . Looks like a big team to get all that , but that’s majors.
It depends if you’re ripping off artists who created the melodies and voices for robot songs , I’m sure law suites will be forthcoming . I doubt they careless on forum songs , but who knows they have robots to find copywrited songs .
Yup I’m sure majors will be suing some folks on all that , they probably hate it as much as when Spotify came out. What if AI steals your voice for a robot song ? Your not going to like it.
Demo business will be gone soon. Except the top notch ones. but, I do know if your not good at writing songs ai won't help you any more than a demo service will. it's just sound, it's not songs
What using ai has taught me
Lyrics matter, if you say I love you, don't expect a good song out if it . No matter how pretty it sounds, it's still i love you and boring ,
It's not better than a human songwriter, it's just faster and more efficient. It may find a melody for a part faster. Whereas the human may take longer or never find it. In the end it's not better overall.
You need an ear and a vision to piece something decent. A bad songwriter usually doesn't know they are bad. They'll take a song out of it that stinks
I think it's still a long way from replacing humans. You know it doesn't really create good riffs. Your not going to hear a riff like back in black, or satisfaction, or heartbreaker, or anything like that where the riff itself is the hit.
Generic riffs, it's got plenty of those.
This could be dangerous if you can edit , id be dangerous if I could tell it what to do, rather than try to suggest what it does
Very generic solos too which means it's all generic. The only way to use this is to take ideas and redo then yourself.
It's kinda pointless if your not putting yourself in it For those that think they are entitled to be artists even if they aren't this is a good way to do that.
I'd say Nashville demo studios will expand using AI new toys , Nashville demo studios generate millions of dollars . people won't stop dreaming , they'll still be doing demos. I'm sure major studios will incorporate A! , if they haven't already on artist productions.
Randy might be laughing this guy sounds better than me in my prime , that guy in the black hoodie works with Bros Osbourne , So yeah Randy's got the A ++++ guys on his song
I read this quote I think it's a biased we all have, of course it seems that way to us. And u agree with alit he says...but people watching a TV show or movie 90% are not even aware of the music playing.
But think about this John, ai could replace actors and TV shows too. Then the music will be moot.
The hope is humans stay relavent somehow, but dunt expect the average now to give a [naughty word removed] about us
..... t’s just the dumbest investment and waste of time taking place in AI music space right now. The loss of time and money for any and all companies investing into generative AI Music is going to be massive. What thinking and emotional human being will want an AI track supporting their film, video, show, or ad? I tried a couple of keyworded descriptions and the music coming back at me is just a mish mosh of total garbage. There are no dynamics, there is no arrangement, there is no “feel”…I just do not understand why people are investing in this space?
AI works for generating drum grooves, perhaps bass lines, horn sections, string section parts and lines…but wow…
Invest in great search engines. What music users want is to type in a desription and then get great sounding “human made” compositions to consider. Even the $0 budget crowd will not download this garbage. Why invest in a garbage commodity that no one wants, ever asked for, and can not sound as good as a human made track.
If they can not top ACID, and Garage Band….don’t bother investing into this noise. At least with the older AI programs such as ACID and garage band you get some vibe and human feel out of the arrangements that are essentially “drawn” and assembled together.

Music can make or break a film scene. There was a special on TV several years ago where they played scenes from movies. First without the music, then with the music. The impact music had on the scenes was phenomenal. Music adds the emotion. It goes where words alone can't touch. Don't underestimate the power of music in films.

It has an affect but not a conscious one. So him saying what human would want to hear that, they won't know what they're hearing. Id say the actor makes the movie half the time
If it's good it will get the job done. Also remember, It's not just anybody using it, the person using it had to be good, or at least keast knowledgeable
You’re kidding me! I think of all the great, memorable music in movies. In Jurassic Park when the first dinosaur is seen by Grant & Ellie. Such beautiful music! And the great themes in Medicine Man, Casablanca, the Disney films, and just about every great movie ever made has memorable themes. Without the music, these movies would be dull.
The AI tools I know are software applications. The better you know how these applications work, the better the results. In many cases you don’t need any knowledge of music. I keep asking myself, can people who are really good with AI music software call themselves songwriters. I mean, they can create songs without playing instruments, without singing, recording or writing lyrics. When the song is done, they can claim that they wrote everything even though they didn’t. It kind of reminds me of Milli Vanilli. Their songs were written, recorded and produced by Frank Farian. He earned the money, which in my opinion was fair. But the two guys that presented the songs in public were only dancers and had nothing to do with production of the songs. What if someone uses Udio to create (I’m not using the word “write”) a song that later gets covered and becomes a big hit? Who gets the royalties? Does every songwriter in the future have to prove somehow that they wrote the song themselves? Or, in other words … can anybody prove that a song was originally written by an AI application and not by a human? Will software experts collect songwriting royalties in the future? I guess the main question is, is an AI music expert a songwriter even if he has no knowledge of music/songwriting?
Begin the day with a friendly voice A companion, unobtrusive Plays that song that's so elusive And the magic music makes your morning mood Off on your way, hit the open road There is magic at your fingers For the spirit ever lingers Undemanding contact in your happy solitude Invisible airwaves crackle with life Bright antennas bristle with the energy Emotional feedback on a timeless wavelength Bearing a gift beyond price, almost free All this machinery making modern music Can still be open-hearted Not so coldly charted, it's really just a question of your honesty Yeah, your honesty One likes to believe in the freedom of music But glittering prizes and endless compromises Shatter the illusion of integrity, yeah Invisible airwaves crackle with life Bright antennas bristle with the energy Emotional feedback on a timeless wavelength Bearing a gift beyond price, almost free For the words of the profits Were written on the studio wall Concert hall Echoes with the sounds of salesmen
The other night I watched "The Perfect Storm" for the first time. The action was incredulous at times, but the music was perfect and brought color to the film and evoked targeted emotions in me that would never have occurred if the music was not there.
It is not a question of if, but when...will people be hired to score films with nothing more than a computer and AI. For now AI is miraculous but a fairly rough tool requiring knowledgeable guidance to deliver a good product. As it evolves it will guide itself more and more.
And if UDIO gives a person the copywrites to whatever they create with the product, then sadly, that person can at least claim to be a song-producer if not, writer. No matter how non-musical they may actually be.

You do the same exact thing. How are you a Songwriter if you copy and paste toontrack piano parts into a song? You didn't write that, you copy and dragged it. You do the same with drums, you dint know what you're doing on drums drag in a beat, every thing you used is pre packaged music. You have to hope they have something that fits.
Maybe you edit a bit
The singer is a woman, kinda weird too
But you shouldn't be wondering how people can call themselves songwriters you are if anything a producer, engineer perhaps.
Don't be talking about royalties, 2000 people can all use the same piano in toontrack
What your doing is no different than ai, and those generic bits are nothing to be claiming.

To you and I the music can matter. I liked sune if the funky grooves in porno s lol.
Guarantee you at a movie 8 out of 10 people are not talking about the background music in scenes.
They may feel it, but not notice it.
Sound track songs. Yes
When I saw the movie the wrestler I heard a Springsteen song at the end. Didn't know it was going to be in there. He wrote it for the film.
Immediately it changed my view of the movie because he nailed it , the song was better than the movie.
But I know it will matter to many, but just the masses
Dom Don't get upset. Think of happy things. Keep in mind, that for years, you have come on these sites without putting up one song... and then Mike Z introduces Udio and now you are clogging the site with AI produced songs... and , it seems, arguing that this sudden proliferation is just as much or more about your prowess as a songwriter, than it is about the power of Udio.
It is legit to question that position.
A suggestion...I'd put up the songs in smaller groups or 2 or 3 and space those out. That might attract more comments.

There's nothing sudden about the songs, they have been posted here years ago, decades ago.
The only difference is u can demo them all
Lyrics are half of it, I can do my own music and sing very well, as has been shown
When u see this guy saying he got chills from a piano, and he has nothing but ignorant comments about my. Music, that's not gonna sit well
I can question everything you do to. You said you have to sing over and over again, should u question the end result? Oh he's only sounding decent cause he punched in a hundred times.
Anybody doing home demos are doing something they can't actually do.
Comments don't matter, jealousy sometimes. But they are listening, and reading lyrics, and they know
Nobody's writing like this technology or not. Paid demos or not .
Am i great? Nope, but I work on my craft and have songs in my head for years .
Some of the stuff here is God awful. At least write honestly if not entertainingly
But if I talked alot, I'm now showing what I can do
Nobody who sends there demo to a company for a demo is going to try to de value me.
Get over it, I write alot of songs. Sorry if that bothers you

A lot for Fd to consider, here
Steve
Creators of music have a responsibility to their craft. When they have finished using all the notes and words, they must pass them down to the next generation with a simple request. “Use these to create new music.”...Steven McDonald
When u see this guy saying he got chills from a piano, and he has nothing but ignorant comments about my. Music, that's not gonna sit well
Sorry guys but I just can’t leave this uncommented because Fdem is referring to me here. If I listen to a piano in a demo and it gives me goosebumps, I’ll tell the writer/producer what I feel. People who post their songs here appreciate feedback. If you don’t find the same piano chilling then please don’t blame me for that.
Apparently, you didn’t read my latest comments about your songs. They weren’t ignorant. You should read what I write: It’s a good song (The Future is Rosie) I like your song. It’s good (Her Gettysburg Address) It sounds great (Foray) Interesting (You’ve Been Replaced)

But Bens piano gave you chills. Your dishonest. And your annoying.
Don't worry I did my part to jump start to the site
Fd said But Bens piano gave you chills. Your dishonest. And your annoying.
But Ben's an accomplished songwriter....

Steve, I fully agree with you. In FD's song "I surrender to you" his singer sings "I surfender...". Yes, you have to know how to write before you start recording..

v North? If you told me today is Thursday I wouldn't believe you.
Keep listening to my music abd try to learn something
I can't KEEP listening to your music because I haven't listened to any of your recent songs written by AI...when you write your first song let me know

Vnorth? If you told me the sky is blue, I wouldn't believe you...
Of course it may not be blue....at 12:00am in parts of the earth the sky is more than likely black....but then kids know that or is this another learning moment for you???

I don't think there anything to worry about John , it will always be people relating to people. And it will always be interesting fur people to see another person playing.
But it will force everybody to up their game
Im looking forward to applying lessons learned into real music, maybe use fiver, although I really program drums well. Save some money fhere
Its not Bens piano , for one the melody was written by Peter Salis a writer in Nashville , we wrote the song maybe 5 years ago I just had a session player put what Peter done in my key . I changed a few lines lyrically from what Peter had . My logic is to re cut old songs myself since pitching them does not interest me anymore . I enjoy more on producing them Its a decent song for me to cut as a artist , I think John beat me on All Of Me , but I'm not a prodigy like John . what's this got to do with AI ? I guess nothing lol, As far as paying hit writers , Its no difference than paying Julliard or Berkley for tuition. If serious enough about it , Your not wasting money on Julliard or Brent Baxter a hit writer , You can send Julliard or Brent a song 3 years later , Not bad grasshopper . Hit writers Julliard or 5k in books and cds , It still takes years to get something decent IMHO. I don't like Apple , This damn Iphone never worked right , so took the sim card out bought a Andorid , and smashed this Iphone to bits.
